MAN ARRESTED AFTER LEADING POLICE ON FOOTCHASE THROUGH BUSHLAND
A man has led police on a foot chase through bushland following a vehicle pursuit in the Hunter Valley.
Shortly after 9 o’clock last night, police on High Street in Maitland observed a Holden Commodore allegedly travelling above the speed limit.
The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated that continued onto the New England Highway towards Buchannan.
The vehicle pursuit ended when the Holden had a minor collision with a stationary Subaru Outback wagon waiting at a roundabout.
The driver then ran from the scene, but with the assistance of the dog unit, he was arrested in bushland about two kilometres away.
He was taken to Maitland Hospital under police guard.
Police expect to lay charges once the man is released.
