NEW GUIDELINES FOR PFOS CONTAMINATION

Researchers say Port Stephens red zone residents should be buoyed by new guidelines for dealing with PFOS and PFAS contamination.

Five years in the making, the document includes contributions from the government and private sector, and could form the basis for new policies in dealing with chemical spills, like that at RAAF Base Williamtown.

It includes how to assess potentially-contaminated sites, and mitigate risks associated with them.

“It allows or it enables consulters, regulators and also owners of contaminated sites to take into consideration what are the potential pathways that can lead to those risks”, says Professor Ravi Naidu CRC CARE CEO.
