SEMI TRAILER BURSTS INTO FLAMES ON NEW ENGLAND HIGHWAY
A truck driver has escaped uninjured, after his semi-trailer burst into flames on the New England Highway, north of Bendemeer, this morning.
Just before 1am, fire fighters were called to the scene and found the truck well alight, with the driver attempting to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher.
The driver noticed smoke coming from the cabin and pulled over to inspect it, when he noticed the fire.
After extinguishing the blaze, emergency crews then turned their attention to a corrosive chemical on board the truck, to ensure it didn’t ignite.
The highway was closed for several hours, before one lane reopened at around 8am.
