Fire fighters who battled a bushfire at Boggabri in north western New South Wales have described yesterday’s conditions as the easily the worst they’ve seen.
1200 hectares of land has been destroyed, along with a house and several machinery sheds.
Farmers in the area say the fire started when sparks from power lines ignited a paddock.
In a cruel twist, a farmhand, who was helping his family defend a property from fire at Dunedoo, lost his house at Boggabri.
An RFS volunteer was flown to hospital after receiving severe burns to his hands.
RFS crews have spent this morning mopping up spot fires, aided by cooler conditions.
