CAMBERWELL FIRE BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL BY HUNTER RFS
Hunter firefighters were also kept busy today by a blaze at Camberwell, near Singleton.
Authorities responded to an out-of-control grass fire at about 9am… it was brought under control six hours later.
“It run down the river towards the bridge which made us close the highway in both directions”, said Fred Turner from the Hunter Valley RFS.
“The wind intensified and it brought the fire up hill towards these residents”, he said.
One man returned home in time to save his car, but his shed was destroyed by the flames.
Intense heat and strong winds kept fire crews on high alert into the afternoon – their attention turned to this flaming tree at about 2pm.
The threat of burning embers forced the RFS to cut it down.
