The four Hunter councils at the centre of proposed amalgamations are expected to learn their fate early in the new year.
The Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter today confirmed an announcement is likely within weeks, saying legal action involving several Sydney councils held-up the process.
“It would have been premature to have made an announcement only to have challenged or overturned by the court actions underway.”
Port Stephens Mayor Bruce MacKenzie says it’s been a year of uncertainty for council staff.
“They don’t know what their future is with Port Stephens, which I think is shameful. I think the Baird Government should make a decision.”
