- A woman has died in a hit and run in Newcastle this morning. She was struck by a white ute – while waiting at a roundabout on her scooter in the inner city suburb of Wickham. The driver of the ute is now on the run.
- Fire crews battling a large bushfire at Abermain in the Hunter Valley have spent the morning strengthening containment lines – as they brace for more horror conditions. The fire is currently at Advice level and has burnt through more than 600-hectares of bushland.
- Treasurer Scott Morrison will today appeal to ratings agencies in a bid to avoid Australia’s first ratings downgrade in almost three decades. A Sydney factory worker has lost his battle in the Supreme Court…to share in a $40 million dollar Powerball jackpot – won by his co-workers.
- And in sport Australian paceman Josh Hazlewood has promised to unleash a barrage of bouncers for tomorrow’s first test against Pakistan at the Gabba.
