An elderly man has died on the state’s mid north coast, after the car he was driving left the road and slammed into a power pole at Lake Cathie just before 10am.
An off-duty police officer and doctor stopped to help, but the 84-year-old from Port Macquarie later died in hospital.
Power was cut to 3,000 nearby properties, it has since been restored.
