People on the Gold Coast are being advised to be on the lookout, following a recent scam involving fake emails claiming to be ‘Infringement Notices’.
Police became aware of the scam after a local resident received a number of emails claiming they had to pay an amount in relation to a ‘negligent driving’ offence.
The man realised the infringement was a scam and brought it to the attention of police.
Police advise that if you receive an email of this nature and are unsure of it’s are legitimacy, please report the matter to the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network.
Police suspect that a link in the email contains a virus, and recommended not to open any attachments.
