The RSPCA is investigating sickening attacks on two Red Necked Wallabies, who were shot with cheap target arrows on the mid north coast.
One of the animals was picked up by wildlife officers near Kempsey yesterday, but had to be euthanised because its injuries were too severe.
The other was also reported to have been seen in the same area, but is yet to be found.
“These arrows are brutal weapons, so to see them used on any defenceless animal and left to suffer for days and potentially even weeks is very disturbing,” said RSPCA NSW Chief Inspector David OShannessy.
Red Necked Wallabies are a protected species and the RSPCA warns the penalty for such animal cruelty offences is a maximum five years jail.
Anyone who has information about the attacks, or the location of the remaining injured wallaby, is urged to contact the RSPCA.
