BASEBALL BAT USED IN STOCKRINGTON ASSAULT

A man has allegedly been beaten with a baseball bat and burnt during an assault west of Newcastle on Friday.

Around 1:30am on Friday, two men, both aged 43, were at a home on Bluegum Close, Stockrington.

Police report that one of the men allegedly punched the second man in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim was then struck with a baseball bat to his back and legs, before being burnt.

The injured man was taken to hospital where he was treated for broken ribs, facial brusing, and burns. He remains in a stable condition.

Following police inquiries, the first 43-year-old man was charged with two assault-related offences, and possessing a prohibited weapon.

The man will appear in court tomorrow.
