TAREE HORSE TRAINERS BANNED AFTER ANIMAL CRUELTY
Two Taree based horse trainers have been handed 5 and 3 year bans, after being found guilty of serious animal cruelty charges.
Former Newcastle trainer Cliff Bashford and Jim Delaney were found to have committed an act of cruelty relating to the treatment of an unraced two-year-old filly, in June 2016.
The filly bowed a tendon and was treated with a home remedy that contained substances that had a corrosive effect on the horse’s leg.
Both the trainers were charged with commissioning an act of cruelty, Delaney was charged with failing to alleviate pain inflict upon the horse while Bashford was found to have failed to provide proper veterinary treatment.
Delaney can reapply for his licence on September 22, 2021, while Bashford’s penalty ends on September 22, 2019.
