INMATE STABBED AT CESSNOCK JAIL

Corrective Services New South Wales is investigating after a 33-year-old inmate at Cessnock jail was stabbed multiple times.

Police say he was set upon by two other inmates this morning.

Paramedics were called to the jail at about 9.30, along with an intensive care medical team, flown-in by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The patient was taken to the John Hunter Hospital suffering stab wounds to his back, arm and neck.

He remains in a stable condition.
