- Six Australian men have been taken into custody, after a mid-flight brawl which forced a Jet Star plane to divert to Bali. They’re being held at Denpasar airport. Five hours into a flight from Sydney to Phuket they refused the crew’s request to calm down, so the plane was diverted and the group was offloaded.
- Cessnock City Council has approved a controversial development application for a mosque at Buchanan. Last night’s meeting saw an overwhelming turnout from the Hunter Valley community, with both supporters and protestors in attendance. 450 people lodged submissions against the proposal, but councillors decided to give it the green light, saying it complied with the relevant planning provisions.
- A skyscraper in Dubai has been engulfed by fire. Dramatic video shows debris falling from the building as the flames quickly spread. No injuries were reported.
- Chaos has erupted outside the Republican National Convention in Ohio. 17 people were arrested after a protester burned an American flag AND a police officer was punched. Pepper spray was used to try to control the crowd.
- Meantime a speech writer for Donald Trump’s wife Melania has apologised for using passages from a Michelle Obama speech.
- A group of strangers has worked together to rescue a driver, trapped beneath his over-turned car in North Carolina. The group managed to flip the wreckage and free the man before paramedics arrived.
- And Gunnedah beauty Miranda Kerr has shown off her engagement ring on social media, announcing she’s engaged to Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel.
