PORT STEPHENS OFFICERS RECOGNISED AT SPECIAL CEREMONY

A dedicated and popular Port Stephens police officer, who died in the line of duty, has been recognised at a special awards ceremony.

Sergeant Geoffrey Richardson was killed in March while responding to a pursuit in the Hunter Valley.

Last night, NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione paid tribute to Sergeant Richardson, presenting his wife, Senior Constable Margie King, with the flag which draped over his coffin, in honour of his courage and sacrifice.

“Sergeant Geoff Richardson made the greatest sacrifice any person can make,” said NSW Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione.

“He gave his life in the service of others and we should remember that part of our promise to him, was to honour his memory by following his example. The best way to honour his memory is to lead through our actions; to live our ideals just as he did.”

The awards ceremony also recognised other officers and volunteers for their dedication and commitment.
