Labor says it will strengthen legislation protecting water from gas mining activities, if it wins power.
Currently, only CSG mining is subject to federal oversight.
Under the plan, shale and tight formation gas projects would also face additional scrutiny.
“There are also significant shale gas developments, which would not be covered by the commonwealth’s environmental protection powers without this change.”
“It just adds that further layer of prootection, by assessing our water if our water would be impacted by any such development.”
