NJC COURSE PROPER REPLACEMENT NEARS COMPLETION

The replacement of the main track at the Newcastle Jockey Club is nearing completion, with the last section of grass planted today.
NJC officials conducted an inspection of the $11-million redevelopment, which has utilised 100,000 square metres of turf.
Despite finishing a few weeks behind schedule, board members couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
“Not only have we now got two racing surfaces, we’ve also managed to re-camber the track, so both tracks now have positive camber. And the other great advantage of this development is that every drop of rain that falls from the rail in is captured by our dam.”
The club is hoping the course proper will be ready to host races in time for the Newmarket Handicap in March next year.
“We’re looking to make sure it gets looked after, whilst we continue to race on the Beaumont Track.”
