MINOR BICYCLE OFFENCE ESCALATES IN WALLSEND
A minor bicycle offence has escalated in Wallsend this morning, with a police officer allegedly assaulted by a cyclist allegedly not wearing a helmet.
Police were patrolling in the CBD at about 2.40am, when they allegedly saw the accused riding without a helmet.
It’s claimed the 25-year-old man swore at the officers when approached and rode away.
When the officers tried to apprehend him again, it’s alleged one of them was punched in the face and sustained a dislocated shoulder while the other officer suffered hand injuries.
The accused also suffered a minor face injury.
The man was taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with assault, resisting arrest and traffic offences. He’ll face court next month.
