POLICE ASSAULTED IN STRUGGLE WITH MAN
A man is facing a raft of charges after a violent confrontation with police on the New South Wales north coast.
Around 2pm a man was seen sitting in a light aircraft at the Tyagarah Airfield near Brunswick Heads.
He left the scene, but police later caught up with him walking along Gulgan Road. Police say he was capsicum sprayed after allegedly becoming violent. It’s alleged he then punched a female officer in the face and head several times. A fellow officer tasered the man without effect.
Four people who witnessed the incident, came to the officers’ assistance.
The-38-year-old is facing a total of seven charges including assaulting a police officer.
The female officer suffered bruising and swelling to her face, head and chest. She was later released from Byron Bay Hospital.
