DOCTOR BANNED FROM PRACTICING FOLLOWING CHARGES

A Newcastle specialist, charged with sexually abusing patients, has been banned from practicing medicine.

Doctor Jeremy Coleman is accused of sexually and indecently assaulting six women at his Watt Street clinic over a nine-year period.

The Medical Council of New South Wales has since banned the 63-year-old from practicing, until the criminal charges are resolved.

He’s due to face court again next week.

A spokesperson for the council says it “is entrusted with the preservation of appropriate professional standards in the practice of medicine, and in safeguarding the trust of the public in the medical profession. The Medical Council takes this role very seriously and will always act to impose conditions on a doctor’s registration, or suspend a doctor from practice, when appropriate.”

  1. It’s unfair that the police and media have called loudly for any one else who alleges they have been assaulted to come forward. This does not happen when others reports an alleged assault. There is a NO public announcement calling for other alleged victims who think they may have been assaulted by the alleged attacker. It is an appalling injustice and a grossly unlevel playing field to do this to someone because they are a pubic figure.
