The University of Newcastle says outsourcing some of its on-campus services will allow it to invest more in education and research.
Under a proposal put to staff, outside providers would be brought in to run the university’s security, logistics and food and drink services.
The move will affect 33 positions, but the university says the majority of employees are likely to seek re-employment with contractors.
