Public transport provider, Transit Systems, has announced it will tender for the New South Wales government’s contract to operate Newcastle’s public transport services.
If successful, the company would be responsible for the delivery of integrated services in the city and United Rail Group would be responsible for maintenance works.
UGL CEO Ross Taylor said, “Newcastle is one of Australia’s largest cities and it is important for the community and for growth of the region that Newcastle continues to invest in its transport system and infrastructure.
It follows an announcement by the Baird Government to privatise Newcastle’s public transport network.
