WORKER BACK-PAID $15,000 IN NEWCASTLE

A fast food worker in Newcastle has received $15,000 in back-pay, after her employer failed to pay her outstanding entitlements.

The worker, in her 20s, was owed annual and long service leave, after leaving the job last year.

Following intervention by the Fair Work Ombudsman, the business rectified the matter.

Meanwhile, two businesses in Port Stephens have been forced to back-pay their workers a combined total of more than $16,000.

13 employees at one business were paid $9,600 after being underpaid overtime, weekend and public holiday rates.

23 workers at the second business were back-paid $7,800 after being underpaid minimum shift pay, Sunday rates and public holiday penalty rates.
