DOM PUNCH FAMILY INSPIRED BY ‘GRACE AND STRENGTH”
The family of a badly injured Hunter rugby union player says they’re “inspired” by his “grace and strength”.
Dominic Punch, was left with serious injuries to his C5 and C6 vertebrae, following a second grade grand final scrum in September last year.
The family provided an update to supporters on the ‘Dom Punch Appeal’ Facebook page, saying the 27-year-old attends therapy sessions in Sydney each day helping him adjust to his “new normal”.
Mr Punch’s injury is classified as C4 quadriplegia, which means he has good movement of his shoulders and some motion in his arms but none in his hands.
He has had some increased awareness of sensation in his lower limbs over time.
The family says it’s going to be a long road to adjusting to Dom’s new needs.
“Facing and navigating the disability system is extremely confronting emotionally and can be financially draining”, they said.
It’s hoped Dom will be out of hospital by April.
