A fire that destroyed a granny flat at the back of a Wallsend property this morning isn’t being treated as suspicious.
Fire crews were called to a home on Brooks Street just before 6:30, to find the detached unit well alight.
More than a dozen fire fighters worked to stop the blaze spreading to a neighbouring shed.
A nearby petrol station was also evacuated as a precaution.
The fire was extinguished less than an hour later – its cause is unknown.
