FUNDING TO FIT-OUT INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURES AREA
In another step towards securing overseas flights, Newcastle airport has received almost $900,000 from the state government to fit-out its international departures area.
“A recent grant actually paid for the facilities to be built, but this grant actually brings the spaces alive so it’s for benches, closed circuit television and access control and office fit-outs for the border force,” said CEO Peter Cock.
As for when international flights start, airport management says it’s continuing to lobby.
“There are a lot of people competing, there are a lot of regions and a lot of other international destinations competing so it’s up to us to put the case for the Hunter first.”
Newcastle Airport was one of 16 projects to receive funding under the state’s Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund.
