MAINTENANCE DREDGING IN SWANSEA CHANNEL
Maintenance dredging in the Swansea channel is due to start next week.
It will reduce the size of a sand shoal in the navigational channel near the southern entrance to Swan Bay.
“Removing sand from the shoal will take about a week and should improve boating access prior to and during the busy Christmas holiday period,” said Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Scot MacDonald.
It comes after the state government spent $2.5-million on dredging the channel to improve access for boat users, with work finishing in January this year.
The state government is also conducting a sand tracing study of Swansea Channel to help gain a better understanding of sand movement between the bridge and drop-over into Lake Macquarie.
