PRAWNERS BAN FISHING INDEFINITELY ALONG HUNTER RIVER
Hunter prawners have made the agonizing decision to ban fishing along the entire Hunter River indefinitely, following the release of test results into the Williamtown contamination.
Testing by the Department of Primary Industries revealed elevated levels of chemical known as PFOS in prawns caught at several points along the river.
The chemical was once used in fire fighting foam at RAAF Base Williamtown.
At the start of November, local prawners decided to push back the start of the season to wait for the results.
