The state government has commissioned an independent report to investigate claims of water loss around Whitehaven Coal’s Werris Creek mine.
A recent study undertaken by the University of New South Wales, found the mine had partially caused the loss of underground water.
Whitehaven Coal believes irrigation and climate is to blame, but welcomed further testing.
The report is expected to be complete in the coming weeks.
