MOTHER OPENS UP ABOUT BEING HIT BY A CAR IN NEWCASTLE CBD

A driver in his 70s is expected to be charged, after a mother and her baby were hit by a car in Newcastle’s CBD last week.

The woman, her husband and baby boy had stopped for a coffee on the footpath of the Vinyl Cafe on Perkins Street on Friday afternoon, when a Toyota sedan allegedly reversed across the street and a taxi, before crashing into the shop.

The 31-year-old was trapped underneath the vehicle, but thankfully bystanders came to help and lifted the car to free her.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, has today released a statement, describing it as “the most terrifying day our family had to and hopefully will ever have to endure”.

She says they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and are incredibly thankful to everyone who came to help.

“To all the bystanders who so quickly ran in and lifted the car off me and my baby, we thank you. Words cannot express how thankful we are for your actions and quick thinking. Without you it would have been a very different outcome,” she said.

“To the police and firies who assisted, and the brilliant paramedics who cared for us at the scene and all the way to the hospital, comforting us the whole way.”

The woman has been discharged from hospital, but her son remains in John Hunter Children’s Hospital being treated for multiple skull fractures.
