LABOR REACTS TO TRANSPORT ANNOUNCEMENT
New South Wales Labor has slammed moves by the Baird Government to privatise Newcastle’s public transport services.
The announcement came today during a visit by Transport Minister Andrew Constance, which will see the city’s bus, ferry and light rail transfer to private operators.
Shadow Minister for the Hunter, Jodie Harrison, says the decision could result in significant job losses.
“Without a guarantee that existing jobs won’t be lost under privatisation many employees and their families face an uncertain wait. Intending to keep jobs does not equal promising to keep jobs,” she said.
Labor supports the services staying in state-owned hands.
