A man has had a lucky escape after his car caught fire in Goonellabah this morning.
The driver was travelling west on Ballina Road, when he noticed smoke coming from underneath the bonnet.
He managed to pull over and get out of the car before the flames took hold.
Ballina Road was closed for almost an hour while fire crews extinguished the blaze.
