COUNCIL BOUNDARY DEBATE CONTINUES
Lake Macquarie councillors intend to fight plans to merge with Newcastle, after IPART found the two councils were not fit to stand alone.
Last night councillors were briefed on the decision to attempt to stand alone.
Meanwhile Newcastle’s Lord Mayor says all neighbouring councils should be discussing the location of local government boundaries.
“It is important to have these discussions about what is right for communities like Beresfield which I believe should be with Newcastle and neighbouring communities like Woodberry and Raymond Terrace in a respectful way,” said Nuatali Nelmes
She believes all proposals should be considered, even moving Newcastle’s boundary further north.
“The irony is Raymond Terrace is closer to Newcastle than it is to Port Stephens.”
