A scientist leading the shark tagging operation off the Far North Coast believes most of the sharks that have frequented local waters, are no longer in the area.
Tracking shows the eight sharks that have been tagged have moved to various other locations, including the Queensland coast and Hawks Nest, north of Newcastle
It comes as the state government prepares to hold a public meeting this week, to update the community on the proposed trial of shark attack mitigation measures.
The meeting will be held at Lennox Head Public School on Friday evening.
