FIRST CAR TO PASS OVER EMU CROSSING BRIDGE NEXT WEEK
After 70 years of lobbying the government for new infrastructure, New England residents will soon be able to drive over the new $4 million Emu Crossing bridge at Bundarra.
Next week the first car will cross the eight metre wide, two-lane bridge, which sits above the Gwydir River.
“At the moment it doesn’t take much rain for the water to overtop the existing low level crossing and that forces people to drive an extra 95 kilometres around to actually get through to Armidale, or to get from Armidale to Bundarra, Inverell and Warialda.”
Local MP Adam Marshall says the focus will now turn to building a new bridge over Abington Creek.
