Merewether surfer Ryan Callinan has moved up to sixth on the World Qualifying Series, after being knocked out of the men’s event in the quarter finals.
Up against eventual champion Hiroto Ohhara from Japan, Callinan needed an 8.5 late in the heat to steal the win.
“That’s the Ryan Callinan we know and love.”
Unfortunately, his 8.37 left him just short, but was still enough to see him finish fifth overall.
