LEVEL THREE WATER RESTRICTIONS FOR TAMWORTH
As of Saturday, Tamworth will be on level three water restrictions after Chaffey Dam dropped to 35 per cent.
Under the new restrictions, usage of hoses and sprinklers is banned.
Management at the Calala Water Treatment Plant says there’s still too much water passing through.
“At the moment it’s treating around 20 to 25 megalitres of water a day, that’s the demand in Tamworth, that’s what we want to reduce, we want to get that down to around 15 megalitres a day.”
If dry conditions continue council says it’s likely level four restrictions will be implemented in January.
“In 2007 when we did have a fairly bad drought we got to these sort of levels coming out of summer rather than going into them so this is new territory for us.”
