An unusual, and rather painful, sight on Newcastle beaches today, as thousands of bluebottles washed up on shore, forcing those on a Sunday stroll to watch their step.
Lifeguards say the bluebottle invasion is unusual for this time of year and is most likely due to the strong winds and rough conditions.
But the good news is, most of the stingers aren’t fully formed, so if you happen to step on one, it won’t be as painful as it could be!
