The Barraba chamber of commerce is leading a new push to save the trees that line the town’s main street.
But council has already decided the trees have to go.
As a business owner in Barraba I Have grave concerns that should Tamworth Regional Council Go Ahead with the removal of these trees it will mean the end for Barraba, which in recent times has begun to demonstrate great potential.
Locals will not come in to town in Summer and take the time to browse through shops if they are unable to find a shady park. Visitors will not stop in a town that is not attractive or appealing to the eye and businesses will suffer.
Tamworth Regional Council took over Barraba Shire almost 10 years ago, if the trees are such an issue why did they not act then when these trees were much smaller and as a result avoid such a negative impact.
Replacement trees will not be equal to the trees we have now especially if they are the Japanese Elms that Tamworth Council have proposed which are a predominately cold climate tree that only grows to 5 meters high.. New trees will take years to grow and in the current climatic conditions may never grow. Do not believe that Council will put in new trees that will magically restore the street to the way it looks now. These trees are more of an asset to this town than a detriment, and assets must be nurtured and managed so that their value benefits everyone.
Taking these trees will put Barraba back 20 years, a step back that the community can not afford to take.
I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE TREES REMOVED! Barraba is beautiful with the trees in our main street!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep the tree,s please. Beautiful Barraba
