RUDD ANNOUNCES NEW MINISTRY IN HUNTER


Kevin Rudd made an unexpected visit to Newcastle this morning to announce his new cabinet. New Deputy PM Anthony Albanese faces a heavy workload,retaining his infrastructure and transport portfolio, while taking on communications.

Bill Shorten will retain the industrial relations brief but will also take on school education.

Rudd backer Senator Kim Carr, returns as the minister for innovation, industry and science.

As does Hunter MP Joel Fitzgibbon, who takes on Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
Simon Crean has turned down an offer to serve in the cabinet, instead deciding to quit politics.

The new cabinet will be sworn in this afternoon.
While in Newcastle, PM Rudd will launch the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
