Belmont Airport could be re-opened, uder a plan adopted by the Lake Macquarie council last night.
The Lifestyle 20-30 strategy outlines how council wants the region to develop, over the next 17 years.
Mayor Jodie Harrison says a re-invigorated Belmont Airport would be viable, because of the expanding population in the area.
“I think that we do need a local airport in the aria and Belmont is the right place for it.”
A ferry service on Lake Macquarie also featured as part of the strategy.
