The Federal government is about to introduce another tier of environmental testing for coal seam gas and large mining developments and their potential impact on water quality.
Under the amendments to current environmental laws, such developments will come under federal government assessment and approval.
The changes will apply to projects that are already under consideration by State authorities and will require the additional attention of an Independent Scientific Committee.
