The Cancer Council has thrown its support behind Kempsey and Port Macquarie-Hastings councils, in their move to ban smoking at outdoor public places.
$5,000 has been awarded to each council, to put towards signage and campaigns advocating a healthy lifestyle.
“It’s very positive, you know obviously most people who live here love getting out and about and I think it’s a good message to send for the broader health of the community.”
It comes after the success of smoke-free playgrounds in Port Macquarie – an initiative that began last December.
