Police have arrested 26 people during a one-day crackdown on shoplifting in Newcastle.
Officers conducted an operation at four shopping centres at Kotara, Jesmond, Mayfield and Newcastle West yesterday.
Police arrested 26 people and who will appear in court at a later date.
Newcastle City Local Area Commander Superintendent John Gralton says the number of shoplifters caught is a big concern to the command.

“Shop lifters”! Just greedy people wanting to get certain items the easy way, well shop lifting is not the answer. If you desperately want something that bad, go and earn the dollars and pay your way like most of us everyday citizens do, and you won’t walk around withe a guilty conscience!
It’s definately more satisfying when you purchase goods knowing that you earnt the money to get what you want to buy!!
