Firefighters are hailing an 89-year-old man as a hero, after he saved his neighbour from a fierce house fire at Woy Woy on the Central Coast.
Jim Hughes noticed the blaze and instinctively ran into the burning building to drag the elderly woman free.
“All I knew was when I heard the windows blow out… That’s when I went in… I didn’t think about anything… Just to get her out of there.”
Both Mr Hughes and his neighbour escaped injury.
It’s believed a heater may have sparked the fire.
