A 74-year-old Lismore man was found bound and bashed by emergency services on Sunday night, when they responded to a fire at his house.
Police were alerted to the fire at about 10.30pm, when neighbours tried to free the man.
However, the man was allegedly bound and confined inside, and neighbours were unable to break down the door.
Emergency services later freed the man and he was taken to Lismore Base Hospital.
