Gosford Private Hospital’s maternity ward was permanently closed by operator Health-E-Care today, following a drop in private birth rates and rising costs.
The only remaining birthing facility on the Central Coast is at Gosford Public Hospital, with staff now preparing to take on an additional 400 births each year.
The Local Health District says it’s recruited more obstetricians and gynaecology professionals to meet demand.
