Search resumes for missing Queensland police officer off NSW coast

The search has resumed for a high-profile Queensland Police officer missing in the waters off the northern New South Wales coast.

The alarm was raised when the officer’s surfboard washed up on Broken Head, just south of Byron Bay, at about midday yesterday.

A set of car keys was also found.

The officer has been identified as 45-year-old Jay Notaro.

A major sea and air search was launched just before 1pm yesterday, before finishing at last light.

It resumed at about 7am today. (9News)

The search resumed at about 7am today, involving Police Rescue, Marine Area Command, QLD PolAir, and Surf Life Saving NSW, as well as local police.

Searchers are focused on the Lennox Head and Cape Byron areas, especially around Broken Head.
