Driver allegedly hits police officer with car after early morning two-hour pursuit

A man has been arrested after allegedly hitting a police officer with his car following a long early-morning pursuit in NSW’s Central West.

Police spotted the man, 30, driving a station wagon at Denman at 1am today and a pursuit began in connection to another incident.

The car was clocked doing 170km/h as police followed it for almost two hours to Mudgee.

The driver stopped on Robertson Road around 2.20am and when officers approached the car, he allegedly accelerated and hit one of them.

Shots were fired at the car but the driver then allegedly fled the scene.

The station wagon, which was a hire car, was found dumped on Lewis Lane, Dunedoo, at about 6am.

The officer remained on duty after being hit by the car and did not seek medical treatment.

The police pursuit took place seven hours after police were called to a motel on Cumberland Street in Cessnock at about 6pm yesterday due to concerns over someone staying there.

Police found the hotel room empty and a crime scene was established.

NSW Police did not confirm what prompted the call.

It is alleged the driver was involved in the incident involving the Cessnock motel.

The 30-year-old man was arrested today in Mendooran at 11.30am.

He was taken to Dubbo Hospital for treatment where he remains under police guard.

The injuries he sustained were allegedly from the incident in Cessnock.
