FUNDRAISER RAISES AWARENESS FOR CEREBRAL PALSY

An annual touch football day over the weekend raised more than $5,000 for a Hunter-based cerebral palsy support service.
More than 300 players took part, with the day not only about fundraising, but also showing the physical challenges facing those with the condition, and raising awareness.
“A child is born every 15 hours with cerebral palsy and it is the most common physical childhood disability”
Thank you for doing this story. My sister has CP and it’s always doom and gloom and there’s a story about people all coming and doing something fun. Love it!
I was at the event and it was awesome. We had so much fun and I really loved the wheelchair game. Everyone should do it next year. They were so fast in there wheelchairs and we were hopeless. Great day
I volunteer for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and it is so great to see the clients enjoying sport.
This is the 3rd year we have run this event in conjunction with Cerebral Palsy, we started with 7 teams, then 11 in 2012 and this year we ran 24 teams. The total entry fee goes to Cerebral Palsy Alliance plus the takings from the canteen, it is amazing to see able bodied players struggling to control the wheel chairs and gives great insight into the difficulties wheel chair bound people live with every day. The volunteers where all amazing and it was such a happy and fun day, we look forward to working with the Alliance to help grow this carnival each year and hopefully receive more coverage from all media and assistance from Newcastle City Council. A special thank you to Angela, Mark and Ryan for the organisation of this carnival as well as the sponsors who once again come on board.
Mark Andrews and Wallsend Wolves you are a legends. I am so happy to be part of a touch community that does these events for Cerebral Palsy. Awesome day and I now look at people in wheelchairs differently…. they killed in the wheelchairs games:)
